Connecting to the Holy Spirit / ADHD, Holy Spirit, and Me / By Coach Kenya Joy Spending time in prayer and engaging in conversation with the Holy Spirit is, without a doubt, the highlight of my day. It is during this sacred time that I find comfort and can truly let go of the burdens and stresses that accumulate throughout the day. For the past several years, I have dedicated the hour of midnight as my designated prayer time. In those precious moments, I offer up all my worries, cares, and concerns to the Lord while earnestly seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance and direction. As someone who struggles with the challenges of ADHD and the emotional overwhelms that often accompany it, this time of prayer serves as a refuge from the chaos of my mind. In the midst of the daily whirlwind, the Holy Spirit brings a profound sense of peace, providing me with the necessary calm to navigate through life’s trials and tribulations. With ADHD, emotional overwhelm can often feel like an insurmountable mountain, constantly threatening to consume me. However, when I turn my attention to prayer and connect with the Holy Spirit, I am reminded that I am not alone in this journey. The presence of the Holy Spirit embraces me, offering comfort and reassurance in the face of adversity. In my time of prayer, I discover relief from the relentless demands of the world. It is a sacred space where I can openly express my hopes, dreams, fears, and vulnerabilities. The Holy Spirit becomes my confidant, listening intently to the deepest recesses of my heart and providing guidance that surpasses human understanding (Philippians 4:7). Through prayer, I am reminded of the power and grace that flows through the Holy Spirit. This divine connection brings clarity to my thoughts, soothing the turbulence of my emotions and helping me regain focus during the distractions of daily life. It is a transformative experience that restores my sense of purpose and infuses each day with renewed vigor. In the sanctuary of prayer, I find strength and resilience to face the challenges that lie ahead. The Holy Spirit’s presence empowers me to overcome obstacles, fostering a sense of inner peace and enabling me to live with greater intentionality. Spending time with the Holy Spirit in prayer has become an essential part of my life, a spiritual practice that grounds me and brings balance to my being. It is during these moments of connection that I am reminded of the boundless love and support available to me. In the arms of the Holy Spirit, I find comfort, rejuvenation, and a profound sense of peace that sustains me throughout each day.
