Navigating the Storm: Gaining Control of Your Thoughts with ADHD / Spiritual Growth / By Coach Kenya Joy Lost in a Sea of Thoughts Have you ever felt utterly lost? I ask this question because, like you, there are moments in my life where I find myself adrift in a sea of ideas, yet progress eludes me. Could it be the relentless companion of ADHD magnifying this feeling? As a creative soul, I grapple with a multitude of concepts, books, courses, and a plethora of unfinished projects. It’s a chaotic dance between inspiration and stagnation. The ADHD Conundrum: Racing Thoughts and the Enemy’s Whispers Being a creative person with ADHD brings its own set of challenges. The constant flow of racing thoughts often feels like a tumultuous river, making it difficult to distinguish the whispers of the enemy from the divine guidance of the Father. Amidst the ideas bestowed upon me, there’s a battle of conflicting voices, both crashing in like a relentless tsunami. The Battlefield of the Mind: A Recap In our previous exploration, ‘The Battlefield of the Mind: A Guide for Women with ADHD,’ we delved into the concept that our minds resemble war zones. Imagine the struggle between good and evil, pulling you in opposite directions, leaving you unsure of which path to tread. It’s a whirlwind of confusion, a maze where the boundaries of right and wrong blur, and you find yourself utterly lost. Finding Anchors in the Storm During a moment of desperate prayer, wrestling with this overwhelming sense of being lost, a question emerged: How do you gain control of your thoughts when ADHD is the storm that rages within? The answer, as revealed in 2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV), lies in “casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” But how does one achieve this when the mind is a whirlwind? The Solution: Filtering Through the Word The key lies in the Word of God. To navigate the storm of ADHD-induced thoughts, filter each idea through His Word. With every idea that surfaces, analyze its alignment with the promises found in the Scriptures. It’s about discarding the negative debris and anchoring yourself to the positive truths captured in His Word. Steps to Taking Your Thoughts Captive Alignment with God’s Word: Compare each idea to God’s Word and make an assessment. Positive Replacement: Swap every negative thought with the promises God has woven into His Word. Seek Guidance: When uncertainty lingers, bring it to the Father in prayer. Let His wisdom guide you. Charting a Course Amidst the Storm In the storm of ADHD-induced thoughts, gaining control is a journey anchored in faith and the Word of God. It’s about recognizing the battlefield in your mind, filtering thoughts through the lens of His promises, and finding comfort in prayer. As you navigate this storm, may the clarity of His Word be your compass, steering you away from the chaos and towards the calm waters of purpose and direction. Let’s Chat!
