Relationship Reset – Post 2
Have you ever thought, “I feel too scattered, too inconsistent, too emotional to be spiritual”?
If so, you’re definitely not alone. For years, I carried that same thought in my heart. I used to wonder how my mom and grandmother could sit quietly for an hour and pray without their minds wandering off. They seemed so steady and composed. Honestly, how did I even know if they ever got distracted? If they did, they never made it obvious.
I used to believe that to have a meaningful relationship with God, I had to be perfectly focused and emotionally balanced all the time. But here’s the truth: your walk with God doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be real, deep, and life-giving.
Biblical Truths
God already knows exactly who you are and what you deal with. He handcrafted every detail of you—your energy, your emotions, your beautiful complexity.
Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT) says:
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”
He didn’t make a mistake when He made you. He isn’t frustrated with your wandering thoughts or your big emotions.
And when you feel like your weaknesses are too much, remember this promise:
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT):
“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
Even in your scattered moments, His grace is working.
And no matter how inconsistent you feel, His plans for you remain:
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT):
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”
You don’t have to be “put together” to grow close to God. You don’t have to look like the women you admire.
Your relationship with God can be just as deep and rich—because it’s personal.
I’ve learned that my prayer life might happen in short, five-minute bursts.
Sometimes it looks like worshipping while folding laundry, or talking to God on my morning walk. Sometimes it’s journaling when I can’t find the words to say out loud.
None of that diminishes the connection—it actually makes it more authentic.
Some of the very traits you see as obstacles—your sensitivity, your passion, your creativity—are strengths God can use.
- Your tenderness makes you compassionate.
- Your curiosity drives you to seek Him.
- Your intensity fuels your worship.
When you stop trying to be someone you’re not, you’ll discover how close God already is.
Activating and Building Keys
Here are a few ideas to help you connect with God in ways that honor your ADHD brain:
✅ Release Comparison. Write yourself a note: “My relationship with God is personal and doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.”
✅ Embrace Short Moments. Pray in small intervals—two minutes here, five minutes there. Every prayer counts.
✅ Add Movement. Walk, sway, or rock while you pray or listen to scripture.
✅ Create Visual Reminders. Place Bible verses in your kitchen, bathroom, or by your bed to keep your focus anchored.
✅ Practice Self-Compassion. When your thoughts wander, gently return them without shaming yourself.
Sis, you are not too inconsistent or too emotional for God’s love. He delights in you just as you are. Your ADHD doesn’t disqualify you—it makes your relationship with Him uniquely yours.
