Relationship Reset – Post 3
You’ve probably whispered it to yourself in a quiet moment: I want to connect with God, but I don’t know where to begin. Maybe you feel too distracted to focus, too unsure to commit, or too overwhelmed by all the “shoulds” and “shouldn’ts.” If you’re a Christian woman with ADHD, starting a spiritual journey can feel like one more thing you’re afraid you won’t follow through on.
But Sis, here’s the beautiful truth: your relationship with God doesn’t have to start big. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to start.
Scriptural Foundation
Romans 10:9-10 (NLT) offers the simplest and most life-changing starting point:
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
That’s it. Believing. Declaring. Not perfect performance or flawless focus—just an open heart and a willing spirit.
Where to Begin: Simple Entry Points
If you’re wondering how to activate your relationship with God, start here:
- Salvation – The First Step
Your relationship begins the moment you believe that Jesus is Lord and receive Him into your heart. This isn’t about reciting fancy words, it’s about an honest, heartfelt yes. If you’ve never prayed that prayer, you can do it right now.
“Jesus, I believe You are Lord. I believe You died and rose again for me. I receive Your forgiveness and invite You into my life.”
That’s it—your relationship is now activated. You belong to Him.
- Short Prayers – Little Touchpoints with Big Impact
You don’t have to spend an hour in prayer to connect with God. Short prayers throughout your day are powerful. Think of them as spiritual check-ins. Even a whispered, “Lord, help me,” or “Thank You, Jesus,” can open your heart to His presence.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) reminds us:
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace…
Your prayers don’t have to be long to be real.
- Listening for His Voice – Learning to Recognize His Leading
With an ADHD brain, stillness isn’t always easy. But God’s voice is often simple and clear. Jesus said in John 10:27 (NLT):
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
When a thought brings you peace, nudges you toward love, or aligns with Scripture, it may be God’s voice guiding you. You don’t have to overthink it. Just ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me?” and trust He’ll answer in ways you can understand.
Practical Tools to Help You Start Small
- Keep a Simple Journal – Write one sentence a day about how you see God working in your life.
- Set a Phone Reminder – A quick daily reminder to pray or read a verse can anchor you.
- Use a Short Scripture – Pick one verse (like Philippians 4:6-7) and read it every morning for a week.
- Celebrate Small Wins – Each prayer, each moment you pause to thank God, is progress.
You Don’t Have to Have It All Together
Friend, if you remember anything, let it be this: you don’t need perfect focus or unshakable discipline to start. You just need a willing heart. God delights in every step you take toward Him, especially the small, imperfect ones.
