Relationship Reset – Post 6
Starting and stopping, not knowing if it’s even worth the effort, that’s a song and dance I know all too well. If you’re anything like me, you’ve convinced yourself that inconsistency is spiritual failure. You start strong, praying daily, journaling, reading your Bible, and then life throws your ADHD brain into overdrive. Suddenly, it’s been days or weeks, and shame creeps in whispering, “You’ll never be consistent.”
But here’s the truth I want you to soak in today: you’re not failing spiritually, you’re growing. And growth? It’s not linear, especially when you’re navigating life with ADHD.
Scriptural Foundation
Let’s lean into the Word together.
🔸 “Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.”
—2 Peter 3:18 (NLT)
🔸 “The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.”
—Proverbs 4:18 (NLT)
🔸 “So we have not stopped praying for you… We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit.”
—Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)
These verses remind us that spiritual growth is a process…a journey filled with grace, light, and continued prayer. It doesn’t happen in a straight line or on a perfect schedule.
Reframing Growth for the ADHD Soul
In our ADHD world, the idea of doing something “every day” can feel impossible. One missed prayer session turns into guilt. A forgotten journal entry becomes a reason to quit. But what if we reframed those interruptions?
👉🏽 What if “starting over” wasn’t a sign of failure…
…but proof that you’re still showing up?
🧡 Starting over can mean:
- You’re building on what you’ve already learned
- You’re picking up where you left off, not where you should’ve been
- You’re developing endurance, not just routine
God isn’t measuring how many boxes you check. He’s looking at your heart. Spiritual maturity isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress, even if that progress includes pauses.
Practical Tools to Help You Keep Going
If you’re tired of thinking you’re failing, here are some ADHD-friendly ways to reset your mindset and keep growing:
- Reframe the Reset.
Write this down: “Each time I restart, I am saying yes to God again.” That is spiritual growth. - Use Visual Reminders.
Place sticky notes or a calendar reminder that says “God still wants to meet with me” on days when you forget. - Keep It Simple.
Instead of a rigid routine, create flexible spiritual rhythms—like listening to worship while cooking or whispering a prayer before bed. - Celebrate the Small Wins.
Did you read one verse? Write one prayer? Thank God for one thing? That counts. That’s fruit. - Journal What You Learn (Not Just What You Missed).
Instead of shaming yourself for the missed days, jot down what God showed you when you came back. That’s your growth track.
