Embracing Help with Open Arms: A Heartfelt Journey of Faith, Therapy, and ADHD / ADHD, Holy Spirit, and Me, Personal Growth, Spiritual Growth / By Coach Kenya Joy Today, I want to share with you a journey close to my heart—one that speaks to the intersection of faith, therapy, and the unique challenges faced by Christian women with ADHD. It’s a journey filled with warmth, understanding, and a whole lot of love. In the cozy corners of our churches, there’s often a whispered notion that seeking therapy somehow diminishes our faith—that relying on professional help is a sign of weakness. But let me assure you, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, I believe that faith and therapy can dance hand in hand, weaving a beautiful tapestry of healing and restoration. Finding Guidance in God’s Word Remember those words of wisdom from the Apostle Paul? “For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10). Seeking therapy isn’t a confession of weakness; it’s an affirmation of our humanity and our profound need for support and guidance. Let’s dive into the comforting embrace of Scripture. In 2 Chronicles 16:12, we’re reminded of the importance of seeking God’s wisdom alongside earthly remedies. And just like Jesus welcomed sinners with open arms, recognizing their need for healing, we too can embrace the help that therapy offers, knowing that it’s a vital part of our journey towards wholeness. Overcoming Doubts and Fears However, I am well aware of the multitude of naysayers and skeptics that surround us, my friends. Yet, in my own journey, I’ve learned to tune out those voices and listen instead to the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit. If therapy is the path to healing that He’s laid before me, then I will walk it with courage and conviction, trusting in His unfailing love every step of the way. And let’s not forget the power of prayer—a warm embrace during life’s storms. Over the past 14 years, prayer has been my sanctuary, my safe haven in times of trouble. Through prayer, I’ve found strength, perspective, and a deepening of my faith—a faith that sustains me through even the darkest of days. Embracing Help Together I want to send a warm invitation to all my sisters dealing with ADHD: welcome help with open arms. Release the weight of stigma and shame, and step into the light of God’s love and grace. Let’s align our hearts with His truth, silence the doubting voices, and nurture our relationship with Him through prayer. In doing so, we’ll discover a newfound strength—a strength rooted not in ourselves but in the boundless love of our Heavenly Father. Together, my friends, we’ll journey toward healing, wholeness, and a deeper understanding of His unfailing love.
