God’s Refinement Leave a Comment / Beauty for Ashes, Personal Growth, Spiritual Growth / By Coach Kenya Joy Last week, we explored overcoming anxiety and how to strengthen our hearts with God’s peace. As we conclude the Beauty for Ashes series, it’s time to focus on a profound truth: God’s refinement. This is about how He takes the ashes of our lives—our pain, disappointments, and struggles—and turns them into pure gold. Have you ever sat back and wondered, “Why did I have to go through all of this?” You’re not alone. Trials with a Purpose: From Ashes to Beauty In 1 Peter 1:7 (NLT), we read, “These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold…” Here, Peter is describing the refining process, where trials burn away impurities and reveal something beautiful and valuable—faith. Just like gold is purified by fire, the painful seasons in our lives work to refine us, strengthening our faith. Maybe you feel burnt out and weary. ADHD often makes it harder to manage stress and overwhelming situations. You may have experienced setbacks or painful moments that have left you questioning why God allowed you to go through so much. But the key to understanding God’s refinement is seeing these experiences as part of His plan to make you stronger and more resilient. The Enemy’s Attacks vs. God’s Redemption Genesis 50:20 (NLT) gives us a powerful reminder: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.” The enemy is constantly trying to steal our joy, inflict pain, and lead us astray. However, what the enemy uses to destroy us, God can use to develop us. That anxiety, stress, or feeling of defeat? It’s not the end of your story—it’s the start of your refinement. Understanding that God refines us through trials changes our perspective on hardship. Instead of viewing challenges as setbacks, we can embrace them as opportunities for growth. It’s important to cultivate faith and patience during this process. In moments when we feel burnt out, weary, and defeated, we can trust that God is using every trial to transform us into the person He created us to be. Here are a few ways to embrace this growth process: Trust in God’s Plan: Remember that God is at work, even when life feels chaotic. His purpose for you is greater than your present struggles. Cultivate Patience: Refinement takes time. Just as gold isn’t purified instantly, your growth in faith will take patience. Lean into God’s strength when you feel weary. Celebrate Small Victories: Recognize the little moments of growth. Celebrate the times when you handle stress better or approach situations with more faith than fear. The Beauty of Refinement The meaning of “beauty for ashes” is about transforming the broken pieces of your life into something stunning and victorious. Just as gold is more valuable after going through fire, your faith becomes stronger and more genuine through trials. God’s refining process is a loving act—He sees your potential and knows the beauty that lies beneath the ashes. You are being transformed, refined, and renewed by the hands of the Creator. Embrace the refinement, knowing that every trial is shaping you into someone more precious than gold. As you continue on this journey, hold on to the truth that what the enemy meant for evil, God is turning for your good. You’re not just surviving—you’re thriving in God’s hands, emerging from the fire, shining with His grace and strength. Let’s Chat!
