How to Pray Without Feeling Defeated or Distracted

  1. Interesting perspective on prayer and ADHD. I’ve always struggled with staying focused during prayer too, and it’s comforting to know I’m not alone. The idea of using pre-written prayers or music to stay grounded is something I’ve never considered but makes so much sense. I wonder, though, how do you handle the guilt that comes with feeling like you’re not doing it “right”? Do you think there’s a “right” way to pray at all? I also love the suggestion of incorporating movement—it’s such a practical way to stay engaged. What’s been the most effective strategy for you personally? And do you think these methods could work for people without ADHD as well? I’d love to hear more about your journey and how you’ve seen these strategies impact your spiritual life.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment 💛 It really means a lot! And yes—you are so not alone. I used to think something was wrong with me because I couldn’t pray the way I saw others do. But I’ve learned that there’s no “perfect” way to pray—just honest connection with God.

That guilt you mentioned? I’ve felt it too, big time. What’s helped me is remembering that God’s not looking for performance—He just wants me to come to Him, even if it’s messy or short or distracted. That truth has brought me so much freedom.

For me, worship music and journaling are my go-to’s. And movement? Total game-changer. It keeps me from zoning out and helps me feel more connected. And yes—I think these ideas can totally help people without ADHD too. Sometimes we all just need simple, grace-filled ways to connect with God.

I’ll definitely share more about what’s worked for me—it’s been such a journey, but so worth it. Thanks again for being here and sharing your heart 💬✨
