Relationship Reset – Post 8
How many times have you sat in guilt because you forgot to pray, got distracted in the middle of Bible study, or just didn’t follow through the way you intended? For women with ADHD, this struggle can feel even heavier. You might think, “God must be disappointed in me. I keep messing up.” That thought alone can make you want to hide instead of drawing closer to Him.
But the truth of the matter is, God is not keeping score.
God’s Grace Covers You
Romans 8:1 reminds us, “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”
Condemnation is that accusing voice that tells you you’re not enough, that you’ve failed again. But God’s Word silences that voice. If you belong to Christ, condemnation does not belong to you.
Psalm 103:12-14 says, “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.”
God knows our humanity, our ADHD brains, our forgetful tendencies. And instead of disappointment, He offers compassion.
And in 1 John 1:9 we are reassured: “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
That means every time you come back to Him, He welcomes you not with a tally of your mistakes, but with open arms.
God Isn’t Grading You
Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) can make guilt feel like a heavy backpack we never take off. With ADHD, even the smallest “mess-ups” feel like massive failures. You miss a prayer time, and suddenly it feels like God has rejected you. But that’s not His heart.
God isn’t looking at your life with a clipboard, marking every success and failure. He’s looking at you through the lens of grace. Every return to Him is a victory worth celebrating, not a failure to be punished.
Your spiritual growth isn’t about perfection, it’s about relationship. Think of it like a parent with a toddler learning to walk. They don’t count how many times the toddler falls; they celebrate every step. That’s exactly how your Heavenly Father sees you.
Reframe the “Mess-Ups”
Here’s how you can shift the way you think about your walk with God:
-
- Celebrate returning, not perfection. Every time you turn your heart back to God, that’s success.
- Replace guilt with gratitude. Instead of saying, “I messed up again,” say, “Thank You, Lord, for always welcoming me back.”
- Anchor your truth in scripture. Write down Romans 8:1 or Psalm 103:12-14 on a sticky note where you’ll see it when guilt creeps in.
- Build flexible rhythms, not rigid rules. ADHD brains often resist routines that feel too strict. Instead of condemning yourself for missing a time, allow variety—pray while driving, journal at lunch, or worship in the shower.
Sis, God is not disappointed in you. He isn’t keeping score, waiting for you to “do better.” He is delighted every time you come to Him whether that’s in five minutes of prayer or in whispered words while folding laundry.
His grace is bigger than your guilt. His mercy is stronger than your mistakes. And His love is constant, no matter how many times you get distracted or start over.
