Do you struggle with focusing during prayer time? Are you easily distracted, especially if you have ADHD? As women, we lead busy lives and find it challenging to stay in the moment and connect with God during our prayer time. However, by incorporating mindfulness techniques into your prayer time, you can achieve greater focus and have a more meaningful prayer experience.
Overcoming Distractions
One of the biggest challenges that women with ADHD face during prayer time is the inability to focus. Your minds tend to wander, and you get easily distracted by your surroundings or your own thoughts. As a woman with ADHD, this happens to me quite often; however, by using mindfulness techniques, we can learn to be present in the moment and let go of our distractions.
Start by finding a quiet place where you can sit comfortably without interruptions. This is a technique I use to tell my brain it’s time to be quiet. Begin by taking a few deep breaths and focusing on your breathing. Notice how your breath feels going in and out of your body. When your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breathing.
“Search for the Lord and for His strength; continually seek Him.” – 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NLT)
Call to Action: Take a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness techniques before your prayer time. This will help you clear your mind and focus on connecting with God. Choose a scripture to focus your mind on if your mind continues to wander.
Mindful Prayer
Incorporating mindfulness techniques into your prayer time can help you achieve greater focus and connect with God more meaningfully. Here are some tips on how to practice mindful prayer:
- Start by setting an intention for your prayer time. This will help you stay focused and centered. Reading pre-written prayers can also be effective in keeping you focused.
- Use a prayer book or journal to write down your prayers. This is a technique I use every day. I have over twenty journals with prayers I have written since I started my prayer journey. This will help you stay focused and avoid most distractions.
- Focus on the present moment and let go of any worries or distractions. Bring your attention back to your breathing if you get distracted.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” – Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
Call to Action: Practice mindful prayer at least once a week. Set aside a specific time and place for your prayer time and incorporate the tips mentioned above. To find more helpful techniques join “The “ME” God Made” community!
