Becoming Her: Rooted, Restored & Released
When I think about roots, I picture a large tree standing tall above the ground, while its strength is hidden beneath the surface.
The roots run deep, far deeper than we can see. They quietly anchor the tree, providing stability, nourishment, and the ability to grow and flourish through every season.
In the same way, your identity is shaped below the surface. When your roots are grounded in Christ, you can remain steady even when life feels uncertain. This week, we’re focusing on strengthening those identity roots so your faith can stand firm and grow strong.
Rooted in Christ, Built on Truth
The Bible gives us a clear blueprint for spiritual grounding:
“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
— Colossians 2:7 (NLT)
“Let your roots grow down into him…”
This is where identity begins. Not in performance or perfection, but in connection. Allowing your roots to grow into Christ means letting His truth shape how you see yourself, how you interpret your experiences, and how you respond to life.
“And let your lives be built on him…”
A rooted life is a built life. When Christ becomes your foundation, stability doesn’t come from control; it comes from trust. Your identity is no longer shaken by emotions or circumstances because it is anchored in something eternal.
“Then your faith will grow strong…”
Strong faith is not forced. It is formed. When your identity is rooted in Christ, growth happens quietly and consistently. Your faith strengthens not because everything around you is steady, but because your foundation is secure.
How Roots Grow
Roots don’t grow through force. They grow through consistent connection.
Deep spiritual roots are formed in small, intentional moments with God. Time spent in His presence, reading His Word, and allowing truth to settle into your heart. Not rushed. Not perfected. Simply consistent.
Growth doesn’t need to be loud to be strong. The most meaningful transformation often happens quietly, beneath the surface, where no one else can see it yet.
When you remain connected to Him, your identity begins to stabilize. You don’t feel the roots forming right away, but over time, you notice that you stand a little firmer than before.
Permission to Grow Slowly
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to equate spiritual growth with doing more.
More prayer.
More discipline.
More effort.
But deep roots are not built through pressure. They are formed through patience. When you release the urgency to “get it right,” you create space for God to strengthen your foundation at a pace that is sustainable and life-giving.
Slow growth doesn’t mean stalled growth. It means rooted growth.
Activating the Roots
Activating your roots isn’t about adding more to your schedule. It’s about choosing connection over pressure.
Begin with five minutes. That’s it. Five minutes to read God’s Word, whisper a prayer, or sit quietly before Him. These moments anchor your identity in truth and create space for your faith to deepen.
Growth rooted in Christ happens through presence, not performance. As you return to Him daily, even briefly, your foundation strengthens and your confidence settles.
If having a simple guide would be helpful, I’ve updated a 5-minute prayer routine to support faith, focus, and identity. Use it as a starting place, not a standard to live up to.
