Relationship Reset – Post 7
Sisterhood… as I’ve gotten older, this word has taken on a whole new meaning. I value sisterhood, friendship, and the kind of community that feels like a safe harbor after a long, stormy day. Living in a world that often caters to neurotypical people can be frustrating, especially when you have an ADHD mind that works a little differently. The feelings of being misunderstood, overlooked, or even judged can stir up a whole other set of emotions.
But what if you could find a place where you can be heard, understood, and grow in your relationship with God without feeling guilty, ashamed, or “less than”? What if you didn’t have to do this faith walk alone?
The truth is, you don’t.
Scriptural Foundation
The Bible is clear about the value of doing life together:
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” — Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)
“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT)
“So it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” — Romans 12:5 (NLT)
These verses aren’t just nice encouragement; they’re a reminder that God designed us for connection. Faith isn’t meant to be a solo sport.
Why Community Matters (Especially with ADHD)
When you live with ADHD, your brain craves connection, variety, and accountability. A supportive faith community can help meet all three needs.
-
- Connection — You get to be around people who “get” you, encourage you, and celebrate your growth instead of focusing on your stumbles.
- Variety — Community introduces new perspectives, fresh insights, and creative ways to grow in your walk with God.
- Accountability — The right group helps you stay committed to your spiritual goals when distraction or discouragement hits.
Without community, it’s easy to feel isolated, unmotivated, and even unsure of where you stand in your walk with God. But with the right people, your faith can flourish in ways you never imagined.
Practical Ways to Build Faith through Community
- Find a Small Group — Many churches offer Bible study or women’s groups. Look for one that meets regularly and welcomes honest conversation.
- Join an Online Faith Community — If in-person is hard right now, try joining a virtual group where you can pray, learn, and grow with women from all over.
- Start a Prayer Partnership — Invite a friend to commit to praying together once a week over the phone, through text, or in person.
- Attend Faith Events — Conferences, workshops, and retreats can spark new connections and encourage your spirit.
- Create Your Own Gathering — Host a Bible journaling night, prayer brunch, or scripture study in your living room.
The size of your community doesn’t matter as much as the sincerity of the people in it.
Encouragement for Your Heart
Sis, you were never meant to carry the weight of your spiritual growth alone. God will place the right people in your life to walk alongside you to lift you up when you stumble, to remind you of truth when you forget, and to celebrate with you when you see God move.
Even if you’ve been hurt by community before, I believe God can restore your hope and lead you to the people who will cheer for your faith journey, not criticize it.
