Trusting in the Holy Spirit / ADHD, Holy Spirit, and Me / By Coach Kenya Joy “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) Trust is a profound concept that holds great power. It is not easily given; it must be earned. To trust is to place confidence and reliance on someone or something. In this current season of my life, I find myself in the process of learning to put my trust in the Holy Spirit. For years, I have attempted to navigate life relying solely on my own strength and striving to control every aspect of my environment and future. However, this approach proved to be demanding and unfulfilling. Letting go of control and placing my trust in the Holy Spirit was a challenging endeavor. But as I have come to realize, the Holy Spirit’s plan for our lives far surpasses anything we could envision for ourselves. It was necessary for me to surrender my desire for control and learn to trust in His divine plan. The weight of control can be emotionally exhausting. It keeps us trapped in a constant state of anxiety and fear, preventing us from experiencing true freedom. We all have areas in our lives where relinquishing control is difficult, where we struggle to place our trust in someone or something outside of ourselves. However, yielding to the Holy Spirit and releasing the burden of control can bring relief, particularly for individuals with ADHD who often experience heightened frustration. Trusting the Holy Spirit means surrendering our desires, plans, and aspirations, knowing that His wisdom and guidance far exceed our limited understanding. It requires embracing vulnerability and acknowledging that we are not in complete control of our circumstances. Yet, in this surrender, we find a profound sense of peace and freedom. By yielding to the Holy Spirit, I have discovered that the burden of control is lifted. The weight that once overwhelmed me dissipates, leaving room for clarity and serenity. By trusting the Holy Spirit, I alleviate the constant anxiety and fear that accompany my attempts to control every aspect of my life. It is a journey, learning to trust and let go of control, but the rewards are immeasurable. The Holy Spirit offers guidance, comfort, and peace beyond what we can comprehend. By relinquishing control and placing my trust in the Holy Spirit, I have found a path to freedom, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose. For those grappling with ADHD, releasing control and entrusting the Holy Spirit with the details of life can provide tremendous relief. It offers a reprieve from the frustrations and overwhelming nature of trying to manage everything on our own.
