Relationship Reset – Post 1
“I’m not even sure what ‘relationship with God’ means.”
If you’ve ever whispered those words in frustration or confusion, you’re not alone. So many of us—especially those of us with ADHD—have heard things like “Just build your relationship with God” and thought… okay, but how?!
Is it a checklist? A feeling? A ritual? Something you have to earn?
Let’s pause the pressure and get clear on what this actually means. Because a relationship with God isn’t about performing—it’s about connecting.
He Moved First
Let’s start with this beautiful truth:
“We love each other because he loved us first.”
—1 John 4:19 (NLT)
Before you prayed one prayer… before you read a single scripture… God loved you first. He’s the one who started this relationship, not you.
- Romans 5:8 (NLT): “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
- John 15:16 (NLT): “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit…”
- Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT): “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.”
He pursued you. This whole thing starts with grace, not guilt.
What a Relationship with God Really Is
Let’s make it plain:
A relationship with God is a daily, two-way friendship where God has already taken the first step.
Here’s what that can look like:
💬 A Best Friend
You show up messy, you ramble, you laugh, you cry. That’s the vibe God wants with you.
💛 A Loving Parent
God doesn’t require perfection. His love is steady—even when you get distracted or start over again (and again).
🌱 A Wise Mentor
He sees your potential even when you don’t. He guides, corrects, and affirms—not to judge, but to help you grow.
God is all three of these… and more.
ADHD-Friendly Tools for Building the Relationship
You don’t need an hour of silence to build a real relationship with God. Here are some ADHD-friendly ways to reset your connection:
✅ One-Line Prayer Prompt
“Hi God, here’s what’s on my heart today…”
That’s it. No performance required.
📝 Use an Analogy
Ask yourself: If God is my best friend/parent/mentor today, how would I talk to Him?
⏰ 2-Minute Reset
Stack a short prayer or reflection onto something you already do—coffee, commute, skincare.
💡 Grace Reminder
Write a Post-it that says: “God started this. I’m just responding.”
Stick it somewhere you’ll see daily.
Reflection & Journal Prompt
Take a moment to reflect:
What do I think a relationship with God should look like—and what might it look like if I truly believed He chose me first?
There are no wrong answers—just honest ones. Let the words flow.
You’re Already Invited
A relationship with God isn’t about religious performance. It’s about responding to a God who already reached for you—with love, not conditions.
He chose you.
He loves you.
He’s waiting for you to just talk to Him.
One sentence at a time…
One moment at a time…
One breath at a time…
That’s how you reset.
