Have you ever felt like your faith is all over the place?
Like one minute you’re all in—reading your Bible, praying with confidence—and the next, you’re overwhelmed, distracted, or just plain disconnected?
If so, you’re not alone. And you’re definitely not broken.
Faith, by definition, is confidence or trust in a person or thing. As believers, it’s our confidence in God—His presence, His promises, and His power. But what happens when that confidence feels…scattered?
What do you do when your soul feels cluttered and your heart feels distant from the One you love most?
Let’s talk about it.
The Spiritual Disconnection No One Talks About
Feeling spiritually disconnected is more common than you’ll ever know. In fact, it’s often part of the journey. Life gets noisy. Schedules get packed. Emotions run high. And for those of us with ADHD, the chaos isn’t just around us—it’s in us.
The enemy thrives in chaos. He works overtime to sow discord, guilt, and shame—especially in our relationship with God. He whispers lies like:
- “You’re not consistent enough to be close to God.”
- “Why even pray? You’re too distracted.”
- “You’ve failed too many times.”
Sound familiar?
But here’s the truth: God is not repelled by your mess—He meets you in it.
God Shows Up in the Middle of the Mess
Let’s look at what the Word says:
“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”
—Psalm 46:1 (NLT)
God isn’t waiting for you to pull it all together before He shows up. He’s always ready. He’s your shelter in the storm, your strength when you’re running on empty, and your help in times of trouble—yes, even when that trouble looks like dishes piling up, tears in the middle of the night, or a mind that just won’t sit still.
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.”
—Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)
God is not afraid of your deep waters—your anxiety, your overstimulation, your racing thoughts. He is with you.
“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair…”
—Psalm 40:1-2 (NLT)
Sometimes, all you can do is cry. Sometimes you feel stuck. But even in that emotional pit, God sees you. He hears you. He lifts you up.
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness…”
—Romans 8:26 (NLT)
When your brain won’t cooperate… when your to-do list feels like a mountain… when you feel like you’re failing—you are not alone.
The Holy Spirit is your helper, your strength, your guide. He understands you even when you don’t have the words.
So, What Do You Do When Your Faith Feels Scattered?
Here’s what I want you to remember: You don’t need to be perfectly put together to be deeply connected to God.
Even five messy, distracted minutes with Him are powerful.
Try this:
- Sit with God in the middle of the chaos. Don’t wait for silence—invite Him into the noise.
- Whisper a simple prayer: “Lord, I need You here. In this moment. In this mess.”
- Journal your feelings without filtering. God can handle your honesty.
- Listen for His response in the Word, through worship, or in the stillness between your thoughts.
Your scattered faith doesn’t disqualify you—it draws you closer to the God who holds all things together, even when you feel like everything is falling apart.
He’s not intimidated by your chaos. He’s not waiting for you to “get it right.” He’s present in the middle of it, arms open, heart ready, waiting to meet you in the mess.
So let go of the guilt. Silence the voice that says you’re not “spiritual enough.” And lean into the beautiful truth that God meets you exactly where you are—even if where you are feels like a swirl of undone tasks, tired prayers, and distracted thoughts.
You’re still His.
And He’s still yours.
Let that be enough today.
