Becoming Her: Rooted, Restored & Released
Have you ever noticed how quickly a change in circumstances can affect the way you see yourself? Sometimes it does not take a major crisis. One difficult moment, unexpected shift, or emotionally charged situation can make you question your progress, your purpose, and sometimes even what you know God has spoken over your life.
I have experienced this more times than I can count. A single emotional moment or sudden change in circumstances can stir up old fears, old insecurities, and old ways of thinking I thought I had already moved beyond. Before I realize it, what I am seeing and feeling begins to influence how I see myself, and my thoughts and actions are no longer being governed by truth.
This is why learning to live from identity is so important. Circumstances may change, emotions may shift, and seasons may look different than we expected, but none of those things have the authority to redefine who God has already established us to be.
The Pattern That Pulls Us Out of Alignment
The circumstance is not always what pulls us out of alignment. Sometimes it is the meaning we attach to it. Something does not work out, and instead of simply acknowledging the disappointment, we begin telling ourselves that we are failing. Someone responds differently than we expected, and suddenly we are questioning our worth. One difficult season begins to make us wonder whether we have made any progress at all.
This is where awareness becomes important. The enemy knows how to use old trigger points to challenge what God is establishing within us. If we are not careful, a temporary situation can awaken an old belief, and that old belief can begin governing our response. Spiritual maturity teaches us to recognize when this is happening so we can stop allowing temporary circumstances to pull us out of agreement with permanent truth.
What You See Is Not the Whole Truth
When circumstances become loud, it is easy to believe they are telling the truth. We begin interpreting what God said through the lens of what we see, rather than interpreting what we see through the truth of what God said. This is where our agreement has to shift.
Scripture tells us, “For we live by believing and not by seeing.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NLT)
Living by faith does not mean denying what is happening around us. It means deciding what will have the greatest authority within us. Circumstances can give us information, but they were never meant to determine our identity. What God has spoken remains true even when our current situation does not appear to support it. Spiritual maturity teaches us to hold what we see in one hand while remaining firmly rooted in what God has said.
Respond From Identity, Not Emotion
The goal is not to become a woman who is unaffected by life. The goal is to become a woman who is so rooted in her identity that every change around her does not create a change within her. She can acknowledge disappointment without becoming discouraged about who she is. She can face uncertainty without questioning everything God has spoken. She can experience an emotional moment without allowing that moment to become an identity crisis.
This kind of stability develops as we learn to pause before we react and return to truth before we respond. Over time, our first response begins to change because we are no longer responding from the same place. We are learning to live from the identity God has been establishing within us.
Becoming Her in Motion
When you feel yourself being pulled back into an old way of thinking, pause before you allow the moment to define what happens next. Ask yourself, “What is this circumstance making me believe about myself?” Then ask the more important question, “What has God already said that is still true?”
That pause creates an opportunity for alignment. You can feel the disappointment without becoming defined by it. You can acknowledge the uncertainty without allowing it to rewrite your identity. You can face what is happening while still choosing to live by believing and not by seeing.
This is part of becoming spiritually mature. You are learning that stability is not found in circumstances that never change. It is found in becoming so rooted in who God says you are that when life changes, you know where to return. That is how you become the woman God created you to be.
Let’s Pray
Father, help me become more aware of the moments when my circumstances begin to influence how I see myself. When old fears, insecurities, or ways of thinking surface, remind me that I do not have to come back into agreement with them. Your truth has not changed, and neither has the identity You have established within me. Teach me to acknowledge what I feel without allowing my emotions to determine how I respond. Root me more deeply in Your truth, mature my faith, and help me live from who You say I am, regardless of what I see around me. I want my life, my thoughts, and my responses to remain in agreement with You as I become the woman You created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
