Becoming Her: Rooted, Restored & Released
God can do a deep work within you while your everyday life continues to operate as though nothing has changed. You can think differently, pray differently, respond differently, and become more aware of who God created you to be, while still maintaining routines, priorities, commitments, and patterns that were built around an earlier version of you.
I began recognizing this in my own life when I turned 50. Yes, I know I don’t look like it, but I am over 50. Something shifted in me, and the more I paid attention to what God was changing within me, the more I noticed what no longer fit around me. Some things were not necessarily wrong. They simply no longer supported where I was going.
That is where growth becomes intentional. There comes a time when you have to stop asking only, “Who am I becoming?” and begin asking, “Does the way I am living support her?”
Is Your Life Supporting Old Patterns?
Sometimes we focus so much on breaking an old pattern that we never stop to examine what continues to support it. We pray for change, become more aware of our choices, and genuinely desire to live differently, yet our everyday lives may still be arranged in ways that make it easier to return to the familiar than to move forward.
That does not mean your growth is not real. It may mean your growth now requires a different level of intentionality. Look at what repeatedly pulls you backward. Pay attention to the routines, commitments, environments, and expectations connected to that pattern. There may be something around you that continues to make room for something God has already been leading you out of.
You cannot always change the pattern without changing what supports it.
What Are You Still Agreeing With?
Growth requires us to pay attention to what our lives are still agreeing with. You may believe that God is calling you into greater peace while maintaining a schedule that keeps you constantly overwhelmed. You may desire stronger spiritual discipline, while giving God whatever time is left after everything else has been handled. You may be learning to establish healthier boundaries, while continuing to say yes because you do not want to disappoint anyone.
The question is not whether you are doing everything perfectly. The question is whether the way you are living agrees with what God has been showing you.
Sometimes the next step in becoming is not learning something new. It is bringing your everyday choices into agreement with what you already know.
Spiritual Growth Has to Reach Your Everyday Life
Ephesians 5:15 says, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.” (NLT) There is something powerful about the simplicity of that instruction. Be careful how you live. Pay attention. Be intentional. Allow the wisdom God is developing within you to influence the way you actually move through your life.
Spiritual growth was never meant to remain internal. It should eventually reach your schedule, your priorities, your relationships, your environment, and the rhythms that keep you connected to God. The goal is not to create a perfectly structured life. The goal is to build a life where the woman God is developing within you has room to live.
Sometimes wisdom looks like recognizing that something needs to change, then having the courage to adjust it.
Becoming Her in Motion
It is time to look at what your current life is actually supporting. Not what you intend for it to support, not what you hope will eventually change, but what your routines, priorities, commitments, and environment are reinforcing right now.
Ask yourself: What in my everyday life is helping me become her, and what keeps pulling me back into old patterns?
Pay attention to the answer without judging yourself. Then decide what needs to change. You may need to protect a spiritual rhythm, create a boundary, rearrange a routine, reconsider a commitment, or change something in your environment. You do not need ten new habits. You need enough intentional structure to support the growth God is already producing in you.
Becoming her is not only about recognizing who God is calling you to be. It is also about building a life that agrees with her.
Let’s Pray…
Father, thank You for the work You are doing within me. Give me wisdom to recognize the areas of my life that no longer support who You are calling me to become. Show me where old patterns, priorities, or routines are keeping me from living in alignment with what You are developing in me. Help me make intentional changes without pressure or perfection, trusting You to guide me one step at a time. Let the way I live increasingly reflect the woman You created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
