Becoming Her: Rooted, Restored & Released
Fear has a way of sounding wise when it is really trying to keep you still. It can disguise itself as preparation, caution, timing, or waiting until everything feels clear. What I have learned in this journey of becoming her is that fear may still speak, but it no longer gets to lead. The woman God is calling you to become cannot continue making decisions from old fears, old wounds, and old patterns of self-protection. There comes a point in every season of growth when we must decide whether we will follow fear or follow faith. One will keep us where we are, while the other will lead us into what God is already revealing.
The Fear Patterns We Carry Into New Seasons
One of the challenges of growth is that we often carry old fears into new seasons. Even when God is doing a new thing, fear tries to interpret the future through the lens of past disappointments, past failures, and past wounds.
Fear of rejection tells us to stay hidden. Fear of failure tells us not to try. Fear of making the wrong decision keeps us stuck in indecision. Fear of not being enough causes us to question what God has already placed within us.
What worked as a survival strategy in a previous season can become a limitation in the next one. The woman God is calling you to become cannot be led by the same fears that shaped who you used to be.
Breaking Agreement with Fear
One of the most powerful things we can learn is that not every thought deserves our agreement. Fear often gains influence because we unknowingly partner with the stories it tells us. We replay worst-case scenarios, question our abilities, and assume outcomes that have not even happened. Over time, those thoughts can begin to shape our decisions and limit our willingness to move forward.
The bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NLT):
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Scripture teaches us that fear is not something we simply tolerate. It is something we confront. The first step is recognizing the stronghold. Unchecked fear can become a stronghold when it repeatedly influences how we see ourselves, our circumstances, and our future. What begins as a thought can eventually become a pattern.
The second step is challenging the agreement. Fear has a way of causing us to imagine the worst. It fills our minds with what-if thoughts and invites us to come into agreement with conclusions that God never spoke. Thoughts such as “It’s not going to work,” “I’m not qualified,” or “Things will never change” may feel true in the moment, but feelings are not always facts. We have to be willing to ask ourselves whether those thoughts align with what God says about us.
The third step is taking those thoughts captive and bringing them into alignment with God’s truth. This is where transformation begins. We stop rehearsing the narrative fear has been feeding us and start reminding ourselves of what God has already declared. We are chosen. We are loved. We are being transformed. God is working in our lives even when we cannot see the full picture.
Fear loses much of its power when we stop agreeing with it. The thoughts may still come, but they no longer get to determine our direction.
Identity Changes What Leads You
After recognizing fear and breaking agreement with the thoughts that have been holding us back, we are faced with a deeper question: What is leading us now?
Many of us have spent years allowing fear to influence our decisions without realizing it. Fear told us when to speak and when to stay silent. Fear told us when to move and when to hold back. Fear often convinced us that staying safe was better than taking a step into the unknown.
Yet God’s Word reminds us that fear was never meant to be our guide.
In 2 Timothy 1:7, Paul reminds us that God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self discipline. This means that fear is not the source of our identity, and it is not the voice that should be directing our lives.
The woman God is calling you to become will still face uncertainty. She will still encounter situations that stretch her faith and challenge her comfort zone. The difference is that she no longer allows fear to make her decisions for her.
Instead of being led by fear, she is led by the power of God working within her. Instead of being controlled by self-protection, she is anchored in God’s love. Instead of reacting to every fearful thought, she learns to respond with wisdom, self-discipline, and trust.
Fear may still speak, but it no longer has authority over your becoming.
Becoming Her in Motion
Consider the area of your life where you have been waiting for certainty before moving forward. Has God been asking you to take a step, while fear has been asking you to stay where you are?
Spend a few moments in prayer and reflection this week. Ask God to reveal any place where fear has been influencing your decisions more than faith. Then choose one small act of obedience that reflects who you are becoming, not who fear has convinced you that you are.
The next step may not feel comfortable, but growth rarely happens inside our comfort zones.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for walking with me through every season of growth. When fear tries to convince me to stay stuck, help me remember who I am in You. Reveal any place where I have come into agreement with thoughts that do not align with Your Word and Your promises for my life.
Teach me to trust You more deeply and follow Your leading with confidence. Give me wisdom for the decisions before me, courage for the steps I need to take, and peace as I walk forward in faith. Help me become the woman You are calling me to be, rooted in Your truth, restored by Your grace, and released into Your purpose.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
